It’s hard to believe that Dubai was only settled by 800 members of the Bani Yas tribe in 1833 and now it’s a glistening metropolis offering a wealth of superlatives, including the world’s tallest building. This is a great destination to escape to in the winter for some warmth.

Highlights

  • At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building. Head next-door to The Dubai Mall for some retail therapy and to the lake to see The Dubai Fountain which shoots water as high as a 50-story building, designed by creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Vegas, no less.
  • In less than a 20-minute drive from the glitzy, modern streets of Downtown Dubai you can experience all the activities the Arabian desert has to offer.
  • Dubai Marina, the world’s largest manmade marina and artificial canal city has a whole host of activities on offer – cruises, plenty of dining options and if you’re feeling brave there’s the world’s longest zipline, the XLine – it’s 170m high and gets up to speeds of 80km/hr!
