A short hop over to Portugal to catch some early spring sunshine; this is a lovely city to spend a long weekend exploring – small enough to navigate easily but large enough to keep you occupied. Take some good walking shoes – it’s hilly!

  • Check out the Time Out Market for some speedy food – just make sure you save room for dessert!
  • Take a leisurely walk or the tram to Belém to see Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Torre de Belém and queue up for the famous Pastéis de Belém (custard tarts), made with a recipe dating back to 1837.
  • Head up to the Castelo de São Jorge for some fantastic views of the city and the Tagus River (Rio Tejo) at sunset. Other good viewpoints (miradouros) are Miradouro das Portas do Sol and Miradouro de Santa Luzia.
